October 2009
By Bob Mulligan
We have come to a genuine turning point. October of 2009 brings us some real relief from the insecurity and intensity of the last year. Both Mars (desire) and Saturn (karma) are switching signs and moving into easier placements. As Jupiter turns Direct, people are generally more optimistic. October is traditionally a powerful time for developing relationships, social activities, and intimate bonding; this year we have several planets in Libra (sign of togetherness), as well as Jupiter, Chiron, and Neptune in Aquarius (another air sign). Air is the social element. However, this year we are working overtime to complete pet projects of several years. Even though it is necessary to be self reliant and productive, make time to relax, relate, and have fun.
The Full Moon is on October 4th at 2:11 AM EDT. We drive toward a goal that will not manifest for a while. The tension of the Sun Opposing the Moon is moderated by a number of easy aspects. Yes, we are bringing things to a crescendo. This is a great time to meditate, but the peace, harmony, and closure we seek is still a few days away. Both relationships and work circumstances will come to fruition slowly over the next two weeks.
The New Moon is on October 18th at 1:34 AM EDT. This is a time of learning to work together. Venus and Mercury join the Sun and Moon in Libra this year at the New Moon. With the majority of planets in air signs, we will have lots of ideas floating around. The next two weeks will find us shuffling through all the possible solutions to life’s difficulties looking for answers that make sense now. This is the time to focus our attention on relationships and understanding during this time of transformation.
Sun enters Scorpio October 23rd at 2:44 AM EDT. This Solar month promises to be the most intense of the year as the forces of change bring about some major restructuring of the social and economic fabric of the world. Self reliance and a willingness to assist others is the backbone which makes change orderly and productive.
From the 1st to the 4th we are handling lots of details and by continually letting go of old habits we make this a productive period. Conversations can seem mechanical but we have access to a higher intuition which can illuminate the path before us. Be willing to use your higher mental functions.
From the 5th to the 11th so many ideas go through our consciousness. While taking care of the most obvious details, strive to understand other points of view. It is a time of decision. Think positive thoughts, tell the truth, and stay simple.
From the 12th to the 18th many things that have been held up, or that we have simply procrastinated on, now suddenly break loose. We progress and it is possible to go from one victory to another in rapid succession.
From the 19th to the 25th is a most inventive and creative time. Positive thoughts and hard work bring results. There is a spirit of accomplishment in the air and people feel that their efforts will make a difference. It is possible to feel some control of our lives again.
From the 26th to the 31st is a psychically sensitive and very creative time. There is a feeling of luck and a belief that life is generally improving. Wild bursts of feeling come to us from less stable people in our environment. When you are conscious, it is possible to stay calm and yet very active. Accomplishment comes by correctly focusing our energy and thinking positively.
1st – Thursday – Mercury Sextile Mars, Sun Sesquiquadrate Neptune – Practical details of everyday life have us hopping. There is an air of expectancy as we have several things pending and lots of uncertainty about the future. Relax, everything improves with time.
2nd – Friday – Saturn Contra-parallel Uranus, Sun Contra-parallel Mercury – Larger conflicts, tensions, and disagreements in the world have a way of replicating and then playing out in our personal lives. Ask more of yourself and be forgiving of others.
3rd – Saturday – There is tremendous energy and a strong desire to create. This time is best used to manifest something of beauty in your environment.
4th – Sunday – Full Moon at 2:11 AM EDT, Mercury Sextile Mars, Venus Quincunx Jupiter, Mars Quincunx Neptune, Mercury Opposite Uranus, Mars Quincunx Neptune, Mars Trine Uranus, Uranus Semi-sextile Neptune – We move rapidly from one point of view to another; it is as if we are powered by profound emotions that are only semi-conscious. Our best course of action is to stay calm, meditate, and focus on set, carefully structured procedures.
5th – Monday – Logic is in conflict with feelings. Forward motion is obtained with careful, plodding steps; we do best to follow our instincts.
6th – Tuesday – Mercury Contra-parallel Uranus, Sun Contra-parallel Venus – Take the time to reinforce others. Compliments and truthful acknowledgment have a way of establishing newly perceived common ground. We have the opportunity to create something new.
7th – Wednesday – Mercury Parallel Saturn – Important decisions made now can simplify our lives. Stay positive and think realistically. Measure your words carefully. Self-discipline is much more helpful than self-criticism.
8th – Thursday – Mercury Conjunct Saturn – Pressure from ordinary responsibilities can slow us down, add to confusion, or lead to inactivity. Take the orthodox path to completion of tasks and stay positive.
9th – Friday – Venus Opposite Uranus, Venus Quincunx Neptune, Mercury enters Libra – We may feel that we should change partners or allegiances; other people or situations look more promising. However, time spent diagnosing our own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors is more productive than changing our external associations.
10th – Saturday – Sun Trine Jupiter, Mercury Square Pluto, Venus Contra-parallel Uranus – Don’t waste time fighting with anyone where the best answer is to just move on. Nurture warm thoughts and feelings and be willing to try new ideas and methods in order to achieve your goals.
11th – Sunday – Mercury Sesquiquadrate Jupiter – Vision is expansive and attitudes are positive but amplified. Be careful of what you promise; emotional energy percolates through all that we do. Some things are best left unsaid.
12th – Monday – Venus Parallel Saturn, Mars Sextile Saturn, Jupiter turns Direct – Now is a time to act. Plant the seeds for future cooperation with friends and colleagues. Complete details of your current responsibilities so you can free you mind to work on new things.
13th – Tuesday – Venus Conjunct Saturn, Venus Sextile Mars –
Relationships are strong but responsibility laden. Being dutiful and practical can give you opportunities to nurture the bonds between you and those you care about in substantive ways.
14th – Wednesday – Venus enters Libra – Opportunity abounds and we feel lighter. You don’t have to say much to establish rapport with new people in your life. Handle details then enjoy yourself.
15th – Thursday – Mercury Contra-parallel Venus, Venus Square Pluto, Mercury Sesquiquadrate Neptune – It is easy to surrender to frustration now; relax and some new ideas will occur to you. Time seems compressed and people may seem a little anxious; remember, not much actually has to be done now. Get done the essentials then wait.
16th – Friday – Mars enters Leo, Venus Sesquiquadrate Jupiter, Sun Quincunx Uranus, Mercury Contra-parallel Saturn, Sun Trine Neptune – Lots of people can gather together for a common cause. Our highest values tend to inspire us and the energy is such that much can be accomplished quickly. We see a broad horizon and can now make plans long into the future.
17th – Saturday – A quiet mood seems to settle over us now as we seek an inner solitude. This is a good day to create something, to express ourselves and to enjoy music. Plan for the coming new month and set your intentions.
18th – Sunday – The New Moon is at 1:25 AM EDT, Mercury Parallel Uranus, Mars Quincunx Pluto – We are off to a quick start as a new month unfolds. This is a great time to listen to others as fresh ideas are everywhere. Express yourself but save your strong emotions for meditation and journaling.
19th – Monday – Take the energy from compulsive feelings and channel it into something productive; don’t waste time in anger or self-defeating behavior. Be willing to let go of things that represent the past.
20th – Tuesday – Mercury Trine Jupiter – Convince others of something that you have been trying to convey. Listen to others and drink in a clearer picture of their truth. Aim for the positive outcome in every interaction.
21st – Wednesday – Venus Sesquiquadrate Neptune – Love, romance, and idealized intimacy take up much of our energy now. Channeling this attitude into a real partnership (or some practical application to achieve harmony) will take some work, but the day supplies the raw material.
22nd – Thursday – Venus Contra-parallel Saturn, Sun Semi-sextile Saturn – Work at integrating details of a current job into the practicality of changing circumstances and relationships. Don’t just make lists of things to do, accomplish something.
23rd – Friday – Sun enters Scorpio – A deep mood overcomes us and work takes on a more solemn tone. We can accomplish a great deal if we outline our territories of engagement and keep good boundaries.
24th – Saturday – Sun Sextile Pluto, Mercury Quincunx Uranus, Mercury Trine Neptune – Getting along with authority figures, understanding traditional methods, and at the same time being willing to alter key operations can create a winning formula. Lead with your heart and follow your higher intuitions.
25th – Sunday – Venus Parallel Uranus – We are easily caught short of time today. There is some stress because public and private goals conflict. Emotional conflict can lead to physical tension. Keep moving forward but avoid arguments.
26th – Monday – This is a good day for social life and making pleasantries. Frustrations happen but we are able to complete our tasks through a blend of self-reliance and innovation.
27th – Tuesday – This is a day of optimism and expanse. Confidences and lively conversation get everyone working together. Overreach is undermining of success. Be satisfied with the progress and good feelings which come easily. If something seems beyond your power to obtain, wait.
28th – Wednesday – Mercury enters Scorpio, Venus Trine Jupiter, Mercury Sextile Pluto – Luck, deep insight, and correct use of force can make this a very productive day. Getting answers to questions that have eluded you makes this day feel very fulfilling.
29th – Thursday – Sun Square Mars, Saturn enters Libra –
Tempers can reach a fever pitch. Only balance of mind can bring us a correct attunement to the current turmoil. Keep your emotions under some control. Others may act without regard for the consequences. Be a voice of reason.
30th – Friday – Sun Parallel Neptune – Time may slip away from us but some of our escapist fantasies can be power for our imagination. This is when we can dream of a better world and work to have it inspire us to be better human beings. Consciousness is rising on the planet and we are all part of this time of transition.
31st – Saturday – Sun Sesquiquadrate Uranus – We seek freedom from conventional ways of being. The urge to conquer new territories, new subject matter, and new projects can be overwhelming. Make strides toward your most important goal.
